This course caters to young people with profound and complex learning and communication difficulties. 16 to 19 year olds develop the confidence and skills to thrive and reach their full potential so they can make a smooth transition to the next step of their adult life. Students in the post 16 department are provided with individual study programmes that are tailored to support their destination goal and the learners’ individual need. Aims of the course are: Promote and develop communication and social interaction skills Develop the ability to transfer learning to other settings Develop practical life skills, cooking, shopping, household tasks. Develop and utilise independence skills Develop skills in choice making and promoting learner voice. Enable students to engage with the local community Enable a range of work experiences and leisure activities Develop self-awareness, self-esteem and confidence. Entry Requirements Students who attend the Post 16 course at Royal School Manchester have very high needs, including communication difficulties and may have one or more of the following conditions Autism Deablindness/multi-sensory impairment Hearing impairment with additional needs Auditory processing disorder Profound and multiple learning disabilities Visual impairment including cortical visual impairment with additional needs Additional medical needs including progressive and degenerative conditions
