Extended Project Course Overview Students have a choice of either a Dissertation, Investigation, Performance or Artefact. They can base the project on anything they have an interest in. Students are assessed on four objectives: Managing the Project, Research, the Project itself and a Review. It is well received by both universities and employers. Unit 1 Dissertation - a discussion paper, for example: Should Capital Punishment be reintroduced in the UK? Is genetic modification of food goods moral or ethical? Unit 2 Investigation/ Field Study - an independent research, for example, the impact of coastal erosion or an analysis of the accuracy of alcohol labelling. Unit 3 Performance - organising and taking part in an event, for example, a performing arts display, a charity football match, a charity rock concert. Unit 4 Artefact - Designing and making a piece of work, for example: a three tier wedding cake, producing an Andy Warhol-inspired artwork, creating a website on micro-nations. The Extended Project is completed in one year (this can be either Year 12 or Year 13). Assessment Students produce a final project that comprises of four sections: 1. Planning and managing (9 marks). 2. Use of resources (12 marks). 3. Completed project piece (24 marks). 4. Presentation (9 marks). The length of the dissertation varies according to which Unit you choose. The standard dissertation is 6000 words in length. Combines with All types of qualifications at Level 3 (A-Levels and BTECs).
