BTEC Health & Social Care Course Overview The BTEC Health and Social Care Diploma, is a 2 year course which enables students to achieve a nationally recognised qualification in Health and Social Care equivalent to 2 A Levels which can lead to employment or higher education. There are eight Compulsory Units: Human life span development. Working in Health & Social Care. Enquiries into current research in Health and Social Care. Meeting individual care and support needs. Principles of safe practice in Health and Social Care settings. Promoting Public Health. Supporting individuals with additional needs. Physiological disorders and their care. Plus three optional units. In addition, students must complete a mandatory professional development portfolio and work experience. Work experience provides students with the skills and qualities essential to working in the Health and Social Care sector. The aim of this course is to develop ways of working that encourage students to: Work independently & collaboratively. Develop research skills. Apply knowledge of theory to workplace settings. Assessment Course work that includes assignments, presentations and practical assessments. Combines with Can be taken alongside 1 or 2 A Levels. Future Pathways This specification is designed to introduce students to work in the public health sector and higher education.
