Mathematics at this level consists of the study of Pure Mathematics, with topics including algebra, trigonometry, calculus and coordinate geometry. This is then coupled with two other applied areas: Decisions (for understanding of computer algorithms and networks) and Statistics (for understanding and interpreting information) the course builds on GCSE and lets you understand and view mathematics with new clarity by developing ideas further. It is suited best to those that enjoy problem solving and logical reasoning. To gain the AS award, you will study two mandatory pure mathematics core units (MPC1 and MPC2) and an application unit in Decisions (MD01). Examinations for all three units take place in June at the end of Year 12.
