This interesting and varied digital photography course covers both location and studio photography over three units of work. One is a general unit based on the process of identifying interesting photographic subjects, taking images and then evaluating your work. There is a location photography unit with a rural landscape project. The studio unit includes a project capturing the school’s dance students in action and a brief where students work with the makeup students to photograph one of their assignments. Towards the end of the course there is the opportunity to undertake an assignment of the students choosing an area of photography they have a passion or particular interest in. Through the course students look at the work of leading photographers and analyse their photography in order to inform and develop their own work. Students also need to evaluate their own photographic work in terms of initial aims and their strengths and areas for further development. Students should note therefore that the course does involve as much written analysis and research work as it does practical photography. We are a well-equipped course and use Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras and edit images with Adobe Lightroom software. We have a studio space with backdrops, Bowen Gemini flash heads and other studio equipment.
