The FMP courses provide the opportunity for highly creative students committed to working in the Media industry the opportunity to develop their skills as film and television writers, directors, producers and editors, broadcast journalists, interactive media designers, photographers and critical theorists. The FMP courses enable students to develop industry relevant vocational skills within a specialist up to date department. The FMP department teaches the BTEC Extended Diploma Creative Media Production for post 16 strand students and the BTEC Diploma in Creative Media Production for Key Stage 4 strand students. The department offers AS/A2 Media Studies, AS/A2 Film Studies and City and Guilds Photography for post 16 non-strand students and GCSE Media Studies for non-strand pre 16 students. This department offers creative skills-based courses in which we aim to develop our students' understanding of the main media industries (television, radio, film, video and photography) through practical projects. In some of these projects a student works alone but they are mostly team based. In our digital facilities we are able to produce work of the highest standards. Specialist teaching and technology combine to provide students with a wide practical and theoretical experience. The department runs a three camera digital television studio, two digital radio studios, two Apple Mac video editing suites, and a photography darkroom. Teaching is complemented and supported by visiting industry professionals, trips to media institutions, a two week radio broadcast each summer and regular screenings of students’ work. Many of our students go on to study degrees in the best media universities -Ravensbourne, Westminster, Middlesex , Leeds and Bournemouth. We are proud of our alumni have progressed to gain jobs as media professionals across a wide variety of media.
