Whether your goal is to be a performer, songwriter, recording engineer or music journalist, you will develop industry-relevant skills within a challenging, well-supported and creative vocational environent. We offer a varied and well-rounded musical education to stretch and challenge you as a musician, and provide you with a welath of skills to succeed in the industry. The music courses provide the opportunity for those students committed to working in the music industry to explore and develop their skills in areas such as performance, composition and sound engineering. Both the BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate (KS4) and Level 3 Extended Diploma (Post-16) courses in music enable students to develop industry relevant vocational skills within a challenging, well-supported, creative environment. The School has a fully equipped digital recording studio, compatible Mac Pro MIDI suite, rehearsal rooms and a 300-seat public performance venue. Instrumental and vocal tuition is provided by a team of specialist peripatetic teachers, all working professional musicians. Much of the student work is project based and a range of creative opportunities are pursued each year. Classroom-based workshops, public concerts in community venues, gigs at local rock/pop venues and larger-scale gigs in the Obie theatre are intrinsic parts of the course. There are opportunities to record or engineer a range of material, from live broadcasts, studio sessions, fullscale musical theatre shows to music gigs, as well as students writing, performing, recording and making their own CDs. The close relationship with the British Record Industry results in us being invited to perform at a range of prestigious events and venues: recent examples include performances at Cannizaro Park, The Roundhouse in Camden and Komedia in Brighton.
