Drama and Theatre Studies is of interest to anyone who has a desire to deepen and extend their knowledge of performance and theatre practice. The subject is taught through a series of tutor and student led practical workshops, which are complemented by the Drama department’s thriving extra-curricular programme. Students can expect to be given the opportunity to experience a number of professional theatre productions throughout the course, including the annual residential visit to London. The AS course allows students to develop the skills they use to interpret texts from a range of different perspectives, such as acting, design and directing. Students will also have the opportunity to see and evaluate professional live theatre performances. The A2 course sees students collaborating in small groups to produce their own piece of theatre, whilst delving into an important part of theatre history – Elizabethan theatre – and studying what is considered to be the first ‘modern’ play, the unusual and unfinished piece Woyzeck by Georg Buchner.
