Film Studies

UPDATED 20161007 10:12:26

Film Studies is a course for students who have a genuine interest in films of all varieties. The course provides a theoretical understanding of the film production industry both in Britain and the US, as well as in other countries. Students will also be encouraged to engage critically with films and develop their own ideas about representation and messages within the texts they study, as well as engaging into different debates surrounding film. Unlike Media Studies, this course focuses directly on films and covers no other area of the media allowing for a greater depth and detail into one media form. The main component of the work is an academic study of films and the film industry. However, students will also be expected to demonstrate learning through practical pieces of coursework like screenplays and storyboards.
