The Sensory Course at Seashell Trust creates effective, meaningful learning opportunities for young people to become more independent. Students develop their communication skills, gain more control over their environment, improve their mobility and learn effective and appropriate ways to express their desires. The course aims to Promote and develop communication skills, enabling students to interact with staff, other students and people outside the college who are significant to them Develop decision-making skills and an understanding of how to control their environment Incorporate mobility programmes at every opportunity Enable students to have a presence in and engage with their local community Enable students to meet their sensory needs and develop self-regulatory skills Develop cognitive skills, such as memory and an awareness of cause and effect Enable students to enjoy learning in a safe, interactive environment
