The BTEC National Award in Children’s Play, Learning and Development is a 6 Unit course equivalent to 1 A level. This is an exciting qualification which is nationally recognised and career-focused. This course is an ideal choice if you are considering a career with children either in primary teaching or some kind of childcare setting and will compliment many other A level courses. The CPLD course will develop your understanding of the role of the child’s development in their early years and is clearly linked to Child Psychology. This qualification is aimed at students who have a real interest in young children (aged between 0 and 8 yrs) and who may enjoy the prospect of a career in this field. The course is both practical and theoretical and will involve real-life situations and visits where appropriate. You will study units covering different aspects of a child’s life. The topics you will learn about include positive relationships with adults, children’s rights, safeguarding children, children’s development including language development, children’s health and physical and play activities for children. This course requires you to secure a placement in a child-centred setting such as a nursery, children’s centre or primary school for a minimum of 50 hours which is completed over the course of a year.
