A2 Level Psychology

Psychology focuses on the science of the mind, behavior and experience. It looks at how individuals think, what they do and the way they are affected by their biological make up and the wider social group. From September 2016 there are a number of changes to the course. There will be a number of compulsory units that all students will complete: Social influence, Memory, Attachment, Psychopathology, Approaches in Psychology, Biopsychology, Research methods, Issues and debates in Psychology. There are also 3 optional units chosen at the discretion of the teacher: Option 1 - Relationships / Gender / Cognition and development Option 2 - Schizophrenia / Eating behaviour / Stress Option 3 - Aggression / Forensic Psychology / Addiction Students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of psychological concepts, theories, research studies, research methods and ethical issues, apply psychological knowledge and understanding content in a range of contexts and analyse, interpret and evaluate psychological concepts, theories, research studies and research methods. Students will evaluate therapies and treatments including in terms of their appropriateness and effectiveness. Students will do this in a variety of ways including: Discussions, presentations, long and short answer questions, group work and individual work and carrying out your own investigations
