The students have been building upon the knowledge gained in Year 12 and extending this. They have covered organic chemistry in much greater detail and will have been introduced to reaction mechanisms and more aspects of spectroscopy. They should be able to apply their knowledge in order to synthesise new compounds. They will have extended their knowledge of physical chemistry and adopted a mathematical approach in order to explain various concepts. In addition, they will have covered the chemistry of Transition metals in much greater detail. The students will also have covered at least three pieces of practical work which will contribute to their overall A Level grade.
