Product Design A Level

This is a course for students who particularly enjoy practical problem solving. It will give students a real opportunity to gain personal satisfaction and a positive experience from working with a variety of materials, from design to production. The practical elements of the course require good time-management skills, genuine commitment and a willingness to complete independent research effectively. Studying this course successfully will bring good understanding of industrial and commercial practices within the area of design and manufacture. Assignments will include product analysis and disassembly exercises as well as focussed practical tasks. Use of ICT will be encouraged and students will be introduced to CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture). ‘Design and Make’ assignments will be undertaken in both Year 12 and Year 13. This course is taught in specialist workshops on the Park Road site.
