The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme enables you to push personal boundaries and gain a range of practical life skills. The award is made up of 4 sections. In order to achieve the full award, achievement of all 4 sections is necessary. These comprise of: Volunteering Physical Skills Expedition The volunteering section will enable you to make a positive difference to other people’s lives by giving your own time in a variety of different ways which you find interesting. The physical section enables you to focus on your own health and wellbeing. You will be required to improve a physical skill of your choice and show commitment to this by sustaining a high level of energy and participation. The skills section helps you to find an activity/hobby that you want to be really good, at such as learning to play an instrument or developing life skills such as preparing a simple meal. The Duke of Edinburgh leaders at the college will enable you to choose the activities that you prefer which will support you in achieving the entire award. You will also need to complete an expedition section which means that you will spend the night away from home, looking after yourself and working with your peers as part of a small team. The aim is to make sure that everyone contributes to the success of the expedition.
