These courses are starting points to the learners beginning their journey towards independent living and looking after themselves. Depending on the needs of each individual learner, the courses are designed to enable learners to raise individual awareness of the skills required to begin and progress the journey into independent living. Learners will develop the skills to ensure they can look after themselves in their home or at least helping out with domestic chores such as cooking, doing laundry, tidying up the house. Students will gain the knowledge and skills required to access and use of services within a community, develop transferable social and life skills. These courses are great opportunity to get prepared for making life choices and important decisions. There are opportunities within the awards for learners to develop further skills in a particular area and may be of particular benefit for those learners who are within sheltered or residential establishments.
