During the AS year you will study one set text, looking at the social, cultural historical context of the piece. You will study the text from the perspective of a director, designer and actor. Further to this you will be required to review a piece of live theatre. As part of the course you will have studied a practitioner and perform a scripted extract in the style of this practitioner for your practical exam. A2 will require a study of two set plays in preparation for written exam. The practical assessment will be based on devised drama. Practically you can take on the role of either actor or designer, working on options such as lighting, set design etc. During both the AS and A2 course you will be expected to visit the theatre on a number of occasions. These productions will develop skills as theatre critics and allow you to gain a wide range of ideas, and for inspiration for your final A level devised practical piece.
