AS level Further Mathematics

Further Mathematics at King David is run in collaboration with the Merseyside Further Mathematics Support Programme. Students will be taught by staff from the Further Maths Centre, through a series of lectures in school – usually 2 x 2 hour sessions per week – and/or at the University of Liverpool. In addition students may be required to attend a number of study days at the University. In between lessons, students will be expected to work independently on tasks that have been set and will have access to the MEI Distance Learning Website which contains a wealth of resources which can be used to support and develop their understanding of the work covered in class. All students will also be expected to communicate with their course tutor – usually via email – about any problems they are experiencing. Further Mathematics: • is designed to be studied alongside the standard Maths AS/A levels • has content which is both broader and deeper than the standard Maths A level Studying Further Maths will: • makes you think! (and so develops your thinking skills) • give you the chance to meet some interesting and very useful mathematical ideas not covered on the standard Maths A level • help your understanding of the standard Maths A level and possibly increase your standard Maths grade • help you to succeed on any Maths-related degree course
