Pupils choosing to study Religious Studies at AS and A-Level will develop their interest in and enthusiasm for a rigorous study of religion and relate it to the wider world. They will develop knowledge, understanding and skills appropriate to the specialist study of religion. Pupils will adopt an enquiring, critical and reflective approach to the study of religion and reflect on and develop their own values, opinions and attitudes in the light of their learning. • Students will learn the following ethical theories: • Natural Law • Kantian Ethics • Utilitarianism • Virtue Ethics and Religious Ethics and how these are applied to the ethical issues of Abortion, Euthanasia, Genetic Engineering, War and Peace, The Environment, Business and Sexual Ethics. • Pupils will also learn the importance of Scripture, different beliefs and practices, and worship within the Jewish faith. At A2 students move on to study Messianic Hope, Developments in Judaism and The 20th Century Holocaust and post-Holocaust theology. Students will need the ability to: • Critically analyse • Engage in wider reading • Plan, structure and produce extended pieces of writing • Articulate your viewpoint and be prepared to defend it when challenged • Analyse and evaluate research and theories • Listen sensitively to the ideas and opinions of others
