French is a highly transferable skill and is highly valued by universities and employers. Most universities are keen to recruit students of French and many courses also offer a year of study abroad; a language qualification will facilitate this. Students of French typically enter the professions of law, international business tourism and leisure, banking and education. Listening and Reading You will learn to understand and answer questions on sport, hobbies, entertainment, healthy living, diet and exercise, unhealthy living eg drugs, alcohol, AIDS and issues surrounding gender and youth culture. Writing You will learn to write essays on the topics mentioned above. You will learn to translate from French into English. Speaking You will learn to discuss the above topics in a confident and fluent manner. You will give and defend opinion. In addition: You will learn to translate from English into French. You will learn about environmental and social and political issues eg the role of the EU, racism and integration. You will study the world of French cinema and French literature e.g. Au Revoir les Enfants, la haine, Les Mains Sales.
