A Level Music

The A level music course develops skills of performing, composing and musical understanding. You will perform as a soloist and as part of an ensemble, in any musical style. You will compose a three-minute piece in response to a chosen brief. You also describe your work as if writing notes for a CD sleeve. The units on musical understanding involve investigating musical styles and learning about historical and social context of music. As well as developing your musical skills, this course enables you to show evidence of skills in ICT, communication and team working, improving your own performance. Sequencing may be part of your performance portfolio and you may use technology to create your composition. A level music can lead to further study at university or conservatoire, to careers in performance and areas connected with live and recorded performance, arts administration, teaching, journalism, music therapy.
