The General Studies AS Level is a compulsory course delivered through the Enrichment programme. The aim of General Studies is to enable students to develop a greater awareness of human knowledge, understanding and behaviour. The course integrates knowledge from a range of disciplines and students will find they can utilise skills and knowledge developed in their other advanced level studies within this course. General Studies encourages students to think critically, logically and constructively about significant problems within society therefore asking students to reflect on the nature of human knowledge and experience of the world. General Studies not only enables students to develop their knowledge and understanding of social issues, it also helps them to develop a range of key skills which will benefit them both at university and in the workplace. These include thinking and analytical skills, critical evaluation skills, debating skills, numeracy skills and personal confidence in presenting an opinion. Assessment in General Studies is through examination only. Students complete two papers in Year 12 for the AS qualification.
