AS Applied Business

UPDATED 20150925 16:44:30

The applied business course is an alternative method of study to the traditional AS/A level business studies and is a qualification of equal status. It is an established vocational course which develops a range of vocational skills relevant to the needs of modern business organisations. There is an emphasis on building a portfolio of work as well as external unit tests, and affords students an element of choice often absent from other A level options. Applied business encourages students to develop knowledge and understanding of the practices and techniques used within marketing, finance, operations management, human resource management and the links between them. Students will identify the relationship between business and the changing external environment. Students will also analyse the social and ethical issues in business. The AS specification encourages students to acquire a range of skills such as organisation, time management and presentation skills and personal skills such as initiative, creativity and perseverance. It also helps to develop interpersonal skills such as working in a team and cognitive skills such as problem solving, research and decision making.
