Sociology focuses on the relationship between individuals and the society in which they live. It encourages an investigation and understanding of cultural and identity issues found within modern society. In addition, it includes a study of research findings and evaluation of sociological research methods. Students will examine key concepts and theories associated with the study of sociology. This includes: socialisation, nature versus nurture, social control, culture, norms, values, status, roles, globalisation, power and inequality. Students will also study Research Methods this includes: practical, ethical and theoretical issues, sampling, interviews, questionnaires, observations, documents, statistics and experiments.
