What will I learn? This is a highly practical course which enables students to develop their skills, knowledge and leadership in sport. Students will be expected to gain knowledge outside of timetabled lessons through the delivery of enrichment activities in PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs. Theoretical elements are more or less prevalent depending on the unit being studied. Over the 2 years, students complete the following nineteen units: • Anatomy and Physiology • Physiology of Fitness • Assessing Risk in Sport • Fitness Testing for Sport • Fitness Training and Programmes • Team Sports • Individual Sports • Leadership in Sport • Sports Coaching • Sports Development • Exercise, Health and Life • Psychology for Sport • Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise • Sports Injuries • Analysis of Sports Performance • Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport • Organising Sports Events • Work Experience in Sport • Profiling Sports Performance How will I be assessed? Students are assessed through observations, video analysis, written reports, presentations, interviews, work placements, enrichment, practical performance and the use of a number of iPad apps. There are no formal examinations. What are the entry requirements? Must meet the standard BTEC entry requirements for the 6th form plus: • A passion for sport • A good level of fitness • A BTEC Level 2 qualification in Sport/Uniformed Services (Merit) Future opportunities The BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport is an ideal pathway into a university qualification in Sport/PE. The course also offers a number of opportunities for work experience, delivery of presentations, interviews and enrichment as well as the chance to gain a number of coaching qualifications. Therefore, the skills and knowledge gained would be attractive to a number of employers both in the sports industry and beyond.
