What will I learn? This is a highly practical course which enables students to work and develop their skills in drama and performance. They will learn how the acting industry works, about employment in the industry and about performing in the theatre. The course also provides candidates with essential technical skills in a number of theatre genres. During the course students complete the following two mandatory (compulsory) units: • Performing to an Audience • Principles of Acting In addition students select 4 of the following units: • Devising Plays • Theatre in Education • Musical Theatre Performance • Drama Improvisation • Script writing • Marketing for the Performing Arts • Site Specific Performance • Performing with Masks How will I be assessed? Students will be assessed through practical projects, observation and written assessments. What are the entry requirements? Must meet the standard BTEC entry requirements for the 6th form plus: • an interest in, and enthusiasm for, drama and the performing arts • the confidence and willingness to perform in front of an audience Future opportunities? BTEC Performing Arts is a widely accepted qualification which demonstrates a high level of artistic ability and a commitment to the on-going development of skills which are useful in any career. Many learners progress onto university or drama school to study a wide range of arts subjects. Past students have gone on work in Management, Teaching, Political Event Organisation, Stage Management, Public Speaking, Media/Journalism, Television Presenting, Sales, Advertising, Set Design, Hairdressing and Business.
