What will I learn? BTEC music level 3 prepares the student for work in connection with the music industry. It is also a recognised qualification to assist student’s entry to university to study any subject. It offers a practical and exciting approach to the subject. How will I be assessed? Year 12: BTEC Certificate in Music (Performing) 30 credits (recognised by universities and higher education establishments as the equivalent of AS level). Students will study the mandatory unit and 2 others units: Mandatory unit: Music performance Techniques Optional units: (This list is not exhaustive) Aural perception skills Classical music in practice Composing music Improvising music Live music workshop Marketing and promotion in the music industry Modern music in practice Musical theatre performance The sound and music industry The music freelance world Year 13: BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Music (Performing) 60 credits (recognised by universities and higher education establishments as the equivalent of A2 level). Students must study one of the two from the mandatory unit list and two others from the optional list (as above). Mandatory unit: Solo music performance skills Working and developing a music ensemble What are the entry requirements Must meet the standard BTEC entry requirements for the 6th form plus the ability to play an instrument/sing to grade 4/5 level or equivalent.
