What will I learn? AS Level: In the pure units you will extend your understanding of Mathematics, studying further algebra, co-ordinate geometry, trigonometry, sequences and series, calculus and exponentials and logarithms. In the applied unit Statistics 1 your studies will include numerical measures, probability, binomial distribution, normal distribution, estimation and correlation and regression. You will continue to develop the ability to communicate your solutions and to use Mathematics in a variety of situations. A2 Level: In the pure units you will extend your study of algebra and functions, co-ordinate geometry, trigonometry, sequences and series, calculus, exponentials and logarithms, numerical methods and vectors. In the applied unit Decision 1 your studies will include simple ideas of algorithms, graphs and networks, shortest paths in networks, linear programming and mathematical modelling. You will learn how to communicate your solutions effectively. How will I be assessed? Written examinations. What are the entry requirements? Must meet the standard A Level entry requirements for the 6th form. Future opportunities The A Level in Mathematics demonstrates the ability to solve problems and analyse logically at the highest levels, as well as showing a mastery of advanced mathematical techniques. With an A Level in Mathematics, therefore, you will find yourself extremely well qualified for many different careers. You may choose to go on to Higher Education where this qualification is valued highly by universities.
