The current A-level Media Studies specification offers students a comprehensive and integrated coverage of media theory and practice. There's a focus on new technologies, and students will complete practical work in both AS and A2. The course covers a variety of contemporary topics and debates, from the way the media presents news and fiction, the impact of technological and e-media changes, to the production of marketing for a musical artist.
Name: Media Studies (A2) Qualification title: GCE A Level in Media Studies Qualification type: Assessment The subject is currently assessed using a 50/50 split between examination and coursework elements. At A2 students will undertake an autonomous critical investigation into an area of issue/debate within the contemporary media landscape; this will form 60% of the coursework unit, with 40% of the unit grade coming from a linked production piece. A2 students will sit an examination which is split between 3 short essay style questions and one extended essay question based on a case study. Currently the exam board has 2 pre-release topics which are: Identities & the Media and The Impact of New & Digital Media Technologies.
