Design & Technology - Product Design (Textiles)

Students will cover the processes in Textiles from fibres to fabric construction, manufacturing and garment production, alongside the history and development of design from the 19th Century. The work undertaken across all units combine theory and practical applications. AS: Students study 2 core units: 1. Materials, Components and Application 2. Learning Through Designing and Making Unit 1 is assessed with a 2 hour exam and Unit 2 is the coursework component and will consist of a range of design and practical tasks. A2: Students will study 2 further units: 3. Design and Manufacture 4. Design and Making Practice Similarly to the AS course of study, unit 3 is assessed by exam and unit 4 is the coursework component. Unit 3 has a theme decided by the individual student.
