A Level Business is a stimulating course which is relevant to people’s lives after education. The course deals with the way business activity and government constraints affect our everyday lives. The course aims to equip students with some understanding of how to become effective in the world of work.There will be the opportunity to study a wide variety of business topics, including: ‘Business objectives and strategies’; ‘How the external environment impacts on strategy’; ‘The role of Human Resources, Marketing, Operations management and Financial management in the running of a business’; and finally ‘How businesses operate in a wider global environment’. These topics will be examined in a standalone AS Examination at the end of Year 12. There are two exams of one and half hours each where your knowledge is tested in a local and national environment. These same topic areas will be further developed in Year 13 and examined at the end of the year. There are three exams designed to test a variety of skills, including: Knowledge and how it applies to a business; analysis of information to understand the reasons why something has happened; and some evaluative skills where assessment and judgements are given and justified using your extended business knowledge. All Year 13 exams are two hours and based on unseen course study material. The exams are all synoptic, so any area of study from the two years can be tested, at any point in the exams.
