We aim to enable you to develop your language skills in order that you may learn to communicate confidently whilst gaining an insight into the contemporary life of the country. Study is based on topics of contemporary interest in French, German and Spanish speaking societies. At AS Level, this includes Leisure and Lifestyles and the Individual and Society. At A2, Social, Political and Environmental issues are examined, as well as the study of books, films or regions pertinent to the countries where the languages are spoken. Within each area you will develop your skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, using authentic, up to date materials from on-line newspapers, magazines, radio and TV. You will also have access to the internet and the VLE through the use of the departmental laptops in lessons, as well as in the college learning centre. You will also use the language lab to develop your speaking and listening competences. Lessons are conducted mainly in the foreign language, with additional weekly oral practice in small groups with a native speaker.
