The course is divided into a series of units; each of which covers a topic familiar to students. The chemical concepts are taught as discrete items within each unit. Students study the chemical elements that are involved in a variety of contexts ranging from the human body, the Earth and atmosphere through to space. Atomic structure, patterns of reactivity, energy transfer, introduction to organic chemistry, free radical reactions, redox reactions and polymerisation are the main concepts covered throughout the year
