A-level PE offers variety and is enjoyable to all students, especially those who like sport. Students will examine themselves as sports people and the world of sport. The course content introduces and develops students' understanding of physiological, psychological, sociological and historical aspects of sport. You will work towards being able to teach others, improve your own performance and understand what makes a champion. The course will also give you the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications. You will benefit from the following resources and facilities: sports hall and fitness suite. suite of PE classrooms, including ICT suite. access to local facilities. Lessons will be both classroom-based and practical. Students are expected to take mini groups and demonstrate their own understanding through teaching others. It is essential that students are prepared to undertake fitness tests and enjoy explaining their results! Students will be required to purchase a Haybridge sports shirt for practical lessons and ongoing moderation. Students are also given the opportunity to gain coaching qualifications. Students can be assessed in one of three roles, in two sports. They can be assessed as a performer, official or coach but it has to be from two sports. Most sports are allowed, details of accredited sports can be found out from the PE department or the exam board. They are compared nationally, often requiring detailed evidence which may include video or written log books. The course leads onto many sport- and body-related courses such as chiropractic and coaching science, dance studies, exercise and health, human life science, nursing, occupational health and safety, occupational therapy, osteopathy, outdoor pursuits, PE teaching, physiotherapy, sport and health, leisure mangement and sportswear design.
