English Literature A-level gives you the opportunity of reading and studying a wide range of prose, poetry and drama texts from all periods of history. If you are a creative and original thinker who enjoys discussion and getting to grips with philosophical ideas, if you enjoy the challenge presented by the close study of ideas and styles, and if you enjoy reading widely and independently, then English Literature A-level is for you. You will be required to study at least eight texts over the two-year course and also read widely and independently in preparation for analysing unseen texts in the exam. The A-level is taught through a varied curriculum which includes discussions, research, debates, assignments, presentations, audio-visual resources, newspaper articles and theatre visits. Students of English Literature find their knowledge and skills useful in courses and careers where ideas, analysis and communication skills are vital. English Literature is very well regarded by higher education institutions. It will enhance opportunities in almost any area of commerce, industry or public services and is valuable for the professions of Law or Education and for careers in the Media.
