AS Course Content Design and Make Project 1: Students will design, make and evaluate a 1:5 scale model of a Bauhaus inspired chair. They will experiment with a range of manufacturing techniques to produce their final model. Design and Make Project 2: Students will design, make and evaluate a modern piece of lighting. The candidate’s ability to design and model a product and then reflect on their design is assessed. Product Study: Students make design proposals for the development of an existing product. Core & Resistant Materials: Students learn about a range of topics relevant to the world of Product Design and to marketing new products with detailed study of materials and components. A2 Course Content Design and make course work project: this provides open ended opportunities for designing and making. Candidates will choose the nature of the task. Designs need to be creative and innovative: students manufacture their idea clearly linking it to possibilities for commercial manufacture. Terminal exam: 2 hour exam, split into two components: Testing design skills and ability to apply core knowledge to product specifications. AS/A2 Assessment Criteria AS: 50% examination; 50% coursework (this is halved if students progress into A2). A2: 25% examination; 25% coursework (plus all marks gained at AS). Exam Board: AQA
