Traineeship

UPDATED 20161229 09:32:56

Traineeships are training programmes that combine on-the-job training with classroom learning. They’re ideal for young people aged 16-24 who have got some idea of what they’d like to do, but are not totally sure. A traineeship, allows you to try out a work environment that you may be interested in without having to make a long term commitment. At the same time, you can be getting support to improve your maths, English and ICT skills and undertaking a number of ‘employability’ skills, for example in CV writing, interview techniques, communication and team working. Traineeships are available across all sectors, subject to a suitable work placement being found for you. Depending on your circumstances, the programme can last anything from six weeks to six months. You can start a traineeship at any time, as they are available throughout the year. You will be allocated a dedicated tutor who will be there to help you to set your goals and to offer feedback and advice throughout. The programme will help you to gain valuable experience and knowledge that will help you to get ready for work. After the traineeship, if you find that you enjoy the work environment where you’ve been based, the next natural step is to start an apprenticeship.
