AS Photography

UPDATED 20150921 09:10:17

A Level Photography is suitable for students who wish to pursue and explore another area of Art and Design. Photography sits well as a companion subject for an Art and Design (Fine Art) or a BTEC Award or Certificate, but would also complement a student’s study in Graphic Design, ICT, Media Studies, The Performing Arts or Science. In the Art Department we have excellent facilities, including a purpose-built darkroom and an iMac Suite. Our Sixth Form students have the advantage of their own studio base, enabling them to work at any time in the Department. Units of Work During your studies you will: Take your own photographs Learn how a camera works Learn to develop your own black and white negatives and prints Analyse and research other photographers’ work and learn something about the history of photography Learn some special effects, including colouring and toning photographs, photomontage, etc. Use a digital camera Learn to manipulate your photographs on the computer by scanning and using Adobe PhotoShop Use studio lights to photograph still-life subjects and portraiture Learn how to present your photographs for exhibition Course Requirements An interest in Photography and access to a 35mm camera. Previous study of Photography at GCSE level is an advantage, but not essential. Course Length Two years, if you complete both AS and A2 courses. Career Progression Further study in Photography, Media and Digital Technology
