Year 1 Course Content Why is the government now cutting public spending? What effect will that have on the economy? What caused the recession? How competitive is the UK? What causes unemployment? Why do we pay tax? Was it really the banks that caused the current economic problems? You will discover how the government tries to influence the economy, why it taxes various products and how it decides where to spend our money; what causes prices to rise and the impact of interest rates. Year 2 Course Content In the second year you will study these subjects in greater depth and progress to areas such as the economics of specific industries such as airlines and to the UK economy in the global economy, including exchange rates, the European Union and sustainable economic development. How will you be assessed? 100% examination at the end of two years based on three 2 hour written papers. Exam board: OCR
