Computing Advanced Level Computer Science is an ideal course for students who want to learn the underlying principles of how computers work. The course examines the fundamental concepts of the subject, including: abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation. Students analyse problems in computational terms, and through practical experience of programming, developing the capacity to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically. At A-level students write a program of their choice to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the subject. Many students choose to make simple 2D games such as Space Invaders or Pac-man, which gives them a good grounding for higher education. This is a challenging course, requiring patience, perseverance and a very keen interest in computers.
