BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Music

This is a two year course where students will have the opportunity to study the Level 3 Extended Certificate in Music. It will not be available as a one year course due to the way that it is structured. The course is an enjoyable way to find out about the music world and what can be achieved in virtually any genre. GCSE Music is not required, however any candidate without it will be expected to show dedication to the subject and demonstrate musical skill at the outset. Units: • Music performance brief (90 credits) Exploring production planning for a music performance Carrying out a music performance Reflecting on the effectiveness of the performance in meeting the production plan • Music composition brief (120 credits) A task set and marked by the examination board, completed under controlled conditions. The task is completed in 12 hours in one week timetabled by the examination board. This will be an industry themed brief where the students will submit a score written using notation software and a written account to support their composition. • Professional practice in the music industry (90 credits) A task set and marked by the examination board, completed under controlled conditions. It is broken into two parts. Part A is completed in 4 hours in one week timetabled by the examination board. Part B is completed in 3 hours in two days timetabled by the examination board. This will explore the professional skills required to work effectively in the industry. • Solo performance (60 credits) Exploring the skills required for a solo performance Developing the skills required for a solo performance Carrying out a solo performance.
