The course aims to develop practical, creative and communication skills as students extend their ability to create drama and theatre in a performing or production role. Students will explore a range of practitioners, genres and performance theories as they develop their analytical skills and apply their knowledge to their own work. Most lessons are practical workshop sessions where the level of student contribution is high. The course involves taking part in performances (from scripted plays and devised work) in an acting or design role and it involves seeing and analysing live theatre as well as studying plays and playwrights. Students will approach drama as an actor, a designer and director over the two years of the full A Level course. All students keep a detailed written record of their work and take a written examination at the end of Year 13.
