This course is designed for anybody who wants to start their career in countryside management. This course provides an ideal introduction to the rural industries, allowing you to learn about every aspect of countryside management. You will explore gamekeeping, conservation and woodland management and by the end you will know where you want to specialise as you progress to a level 3 qualification. It also provides a basic foundation of practical skills for work within this sector.You will get involved in managing habitats with hand tools like bow saws, axes and billhooks, looking after pheasants, ducks and partridges, learning about how different species interact in a habitat or using land based machinery like tractors and quad bikes.Learning on the course is embedded into the Lackham Estate and farm, which have a wide range of enterprises and resources that the students may use. These include woodlands, wetlands and other natural and semi-natural habitats, a commercial shoot and deer park with sika and fallow deer.The course also includes a minimum of 200 hours of work experience with a relevant employer to help develop your practical skills.
