• These courses allow you to use the skills you developed both in GCSE English Literature and English Language. • They differ from English Literature in that you study a wider range of texts, both literary and non-fiction (including the spoken word) and you do your own creative writing • Alongside literary analytical methods you will use methods from the science of linguistics • There will be more emphasis on making connections between texts • You will be required to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all three literary genres: poetry, drama and prose You will also: • create your own piece of original prose writing in an exam • choose your own text to compare with a set text through coursework • produce your own original non-fiction writing through coursework
