The A Level Chemistry course enables you to study aspects of chemistry often in the media and how they affect your lives. It is important students have the necessary knowledge and understanding to explain many aspects of contemporary chemistry. These areas include climate change, green chemistry, pharmaceuticals and research chemistry. The course gives the student a good understanding of the basic principles of the subject and introduces modern techniques that are used in industry. For those not yet committed to a specific career path, Chemistry in combination with Mathematics, Physics, Geography or Biology keeps open a very wide set of options. Chemistry is asked for in University applications for a very wide range of subjects. Even for students not using Chemistry for their degree course, obtaining a Chemistry A Level is well respected by employers. The course involves a lot of practical work closely integrated with theory. At the time of writing, the new syllabus for teaching September 2105 has not been accredited. A draft has been issued and it is hoped that the new syllabus will be fully sanctioned by OFQUAL very soon. The first year of this two year A Level course will follow on from the GCSE and many topics already covered, such as atomic structure and bonding, will be studied in greater depth. The course will also cover in greater depth such topics as equilibrium which have been studied at GCSE.
