A Level Art

UPDATED 20160908 13:22:29

Art and Design as a unit is both a form of communication and a means of expression of ideas and feelings. It forms a language which complements those of the literary, mathematical, scientific and factually based subjects and is especially concerned with the development of visual perception and aesthetic experience. Through both theoretical studies and the individual development of practical skills the course leads to a fuller understanding of the part played by Art and Design in the history of human development. Fundamental to the A Level course is the production of a comprehensive portfolio of work by each candidate. (All Art Schools, University Departments of Fine Art and most Schools of Architecture require applicants to submit a portfolio of work). This specification is intended to form part of an educational continuum which progresses naturally from GCSE and is intended to meet the needs of the following groups of candidates:  those who will undertake further studies in Art and Design  those who will study subjects or take up careers for which an Art and Design background is relevant. These might include advertising, publishing, architecture, museums, theatre, etc  those, who whilst having interest and aptitude in the subject, are not intending to study the subject beyond Advanced Level. Areas of Study Candidates are required to work in one or more area(s) of FINE ART, such as those listed below:  painting, drawing and mixed media  sculpture (including ceramic sculpture)  land art, installation and construction  printmaking  photography
