English Literature has proved a popular and enjoyable A level for many years. Our students have achieved great success with this subject, going on to study English, Media or Journalism at Degree Level. On Year 1, you will study two Units of work, sitting two examination papers at the end of the year on ‘Love Through the Ages: Shakespeare and Poetry’ and ‘Love Through the Ages: Prose’. Units of Work If you have chosen to study the full A Level two-year course, three further Units are studied: ‘Love Through the Ages’ and ‘Text in Shared Contexts’ which are examined at the end of the second year, together with a non-examination assessment: ‘Independent Critical Study: Texts Across Time’. Your course will look something like this: Year 1: Unit 1: Love through the Ages: Shakespeare and Poetry Examination = 50% Unit 2: Love through the Ages: Prose (comparing two texts) Examination = 50% Full A Level: Unit 1: Love through the Ages (one poetry text, one prosetext and one Shakespeare play) Examination = 40% Unit 2: Text in Shared Contexts: World War I and itsAftermath (three texts, one prose, one poetry and one drama) Examination = 40% Unit 3: Independent Critical Study: Texts Across Time Non-Examination = 20%
