History

UPDATED 20161007 13:18:12

We will be studying significant periods in British and American history with an emphasis on breadth as well as depth. The linear assessment encourages historical debate and discussion and allows you time to formulate your viewpoints. You will develop the ability to write coherent, analytical and well-structured essays, to engage with the evidence and to reach informed independent judgements. You will learn how to interpret and evaluate a range of source material and to discriminate between competing historical interpretations advanced by historians. You will learn the independent research skills necessary to conduct a personal historical investigation and will be expected to read widely and take notes. We will be offering a visit to Hampton Court Palace as part of a study of the Tudors, as well as an opportunity to visit the USA in connection with your American history studies.
