Business Studies A Level

This course investigates business from varying perspectives, including employees, management and consumers. It is a subject which compliments the majority of other subject areas available in Sixth Form. Business Studies at A Level is a demanding and interesting academic subject, which aims to provide studies with the opportunity to investigate a number of business issues and areas. You will study local, national and international businesses and the strategies they use to move forward. The first year has the following content and you will learn the following two themes: Theme 1: Marketing and People Meeting customer needs The market Marketing mix and strategy Managing people Entrepreneurs and leaders Theme 2: Managing Business Activities Raising finance Financial planning Managing finance Resource management External influences The A Level has the following content in addition to the AS modules. Theme 3: Business Decisions and Strategy The theme develops the concepts introduced in Theme 2. Students will develop an understanding of: Business objectives and strategy Business growth Decision-making techniques Influences on business decisions Assessing competitiveness Managing change Theme 4: Global Business This theme develops the concepts introduced in Theme 1. Students will develop an understanding of: Globalisation Global markets and business expansion Global marketing Global industries and companies (multi-national corporations) Career Progression In addition to developing an understanding of the business world, students will gain skills in report and essay writing, problem solving and analytical investigation. Students following this course have found it provides a useful insight into the complex world of business, and aids progression into both Further and Higher Education and a multitude of employment and career opportunities.
