In this course you will study a range of physiological, sociological and psychological aspects of performance. You will develop the ability to appreciate relationships between theory and practice, and to apply theoretical knowledge to develop understanding of planning, performing and evaluation training programmes and competitive performance. It is assumed that students undertaking an A Level in Physical Education will be performing practically in their chosen sport(s) and extra-curricular at school level, in addition to being part of an out-of-school Sports Club. Units of Work AS Unit 1 - Theory - 2 hour exam in three parts: Anatomy and Physiology Acquiring Movement Skills Social - Cultural Studies in Physical Activity Unit 2 - Coursework Assessment Candidates will be assessed in one of the following areas: Performing two activities, evaluating and planning for the improvement of performance Performing an activity and coaching/leading another activity, together with evaluating and planning for the improvement of performance Performing an activity and officiating another activity, together with evaluating and planning for the improvement of performance A2 Unit 3 - Two hours and thirty minutes exam in three parts Historical Studies of PE and Sport in Britain Comparative Studies in USA and Australia Sports Psychology and Effect on Sports Performance Unit 4 - Assessment - Candidates will be assessed in one of the following areas: Performing an activity and the evaluation, appreciation and improvement of performance Coaching / Leading an activity and the evaluation, appreciation and improvement of performance Course Length-two years
